
Why not get out in nature and explore some of the beautiful walking tracks the Dandenong ranges has to offer? Following are just a small example of the numerous walking tracks available to enjoy.... your body and mind will love you for it!
1. 1000 Steps – Kokoda Memorial Walk
This is a 4.3km circuit that is moderate to hard in difficulty, however, this track has a lot of history and plenty of beautiful scenery. Located in Upper Ferntree Gully there are plenty of places to stop and grab a bite to eat and public transport is right near the 1000 Steps.
2. Grant Picnic Ground
This is a short 700m walk, which is right through nature and with plenty to see. There is a bird feeding area on sight, as well as if caught at the right time the chance to see lyrebirds and lots of other native wildlife. Located in Kallista, there is plenty of ways to get here, with easy access to public transport and plenty of parking.
3. Cardinia Reservoir Park
This is a 3km walk which is a lot easier than most, with dogs and prams both able to come on this walk. There is plenty of wildlife, grass for the kids to play on and playgrounds, BBQ’s and toilets on sight. As well as the beautiful Cardinia Reservoir Wall to walk across which provides amazing views of the beauty this place had to offer. Located in Emerald, public transport is a little bit more difficult however, there is plenty of car parking available.
4. Birdsland Reserve
This is an amazing 2.85km round trip, which is easy, dog and pram friendly. Within the Reserve, there are over 130 varied native birds as well as plenty more wildlife. Located in Belgrave South, this is not very easy to get to on public transport, however, there is a lot of parking and plenty of picnic tables and BBQ’s to make memories.
5. Sherbrooke Falls Walking Track
This is a beautiful walking track with a wonderful waterfall on its path. The walk is easy however does involve some steps when crossing the bridge. This walk is an easy 2.4km walk with picnic tables and BBQ’s there for a snack and break after this walk. Located in Sherbrooke this is reasonably easy to access on public transport but will require some extra walking, there is also plenty of parking.
6. Valley Picnic Ground – Eagle Nest Loop
This is a stunning 3km circuit walk, that is moderately easy and pram friendly. This is one of the most remote walks within the Dandenong Ranges. This walk has plenty of scenery to see and lots of native wildlife. Located in Olinda, it is not easy to access via public transport, however you can catch public transport and walk other tracks to get to this area. There is plenty of parking however no public toilets or water taps.
